Join the Flying Squad! Tell CalPERS: Divest from Fossil Fuel!

June 19, 2022

Join the CalPERS Flying Squad — a standby group ready to show up at meetings of the California Public Employees Retirement System to demand they divest from fossil fuels.

CalPERS, with roughly $5.5 billion invested in fossil fuels, has ignored years of sound scientific and financial evidence showing that divestment is the best thing for public employees’ pensions, our planet, and its people.

The Flying Squad will show up at CalPERS Board meetings or related events with signs, wearing costumes, dancing or miming climate anger/anguish, etc. They will demand that CalPERS “stop making  decisions that doom us, our children, and the globe to poisonous coal mines and fracking,  places that are too hot for humans to live in, species extinction, fire, famine, and more.”

Especially if you have a relationship to CalPERS, as a public employee, retiree, or family member, sign up here.

But all Californians have a connection to CalPERS because its funds are all ultimately from state money (29% percent from employer contributions, 11 % from employee contributions, 60% from investment earnings)
