Join Amazon Watch for another in their Green Bag Lunch series, this one focusing on the environmental consequences of Chinese investment in Latin America.
Speakers include: Paulina Garzón, director of the China Latin-America Sustainable Investments Initiative; Kevin Koenig, Ecuador Program Director of Amazon Watch; and Katharine Lu, China Sustainable Finance Campaigner at Friends of the Earth.
While the Trump administration continues to undermine environmental protections domestically and abroad, China has been striving to position itself as a climate leader by halting the expansion of coal and expanding its renewable infrastructure at home. At the same time, China has also become the major financier of oil expansion in Latin America, often in key areas like the Amazon rainforest that must be preserved in order to combat climate change.

2017 “Green Bag” Lunch Series:
Amazon Watch hosts regular “Green Bag” lunchtime presentations at our offices in Oakland, CA and Washington, DC. Most sessions are on Thursdays and focus on issues relevant to our work and the broader movements for the environment, human rights, and our climate future. In these times of growing climate chaos and the concentration of corporate power in governance, these conversations offer an opportunity to come together to learn from and inspire one another.
