Bay Area residents can hear an overview of the Draft 2022 Scoping Plan and respond directly to California Air Resources Board (CARB) staff and Board Members at an Oakland meeting at Laney College on Thursday. There will also be a zoom webinar on August 9th. Feedback from these sessions will inform potential revisions to this update of the state’s AB 32 Climate Change Scoping Plan.
The draft was released to the public in early May. On June 23, the Board held a public meeting on the Draft Plan in Sacramento with more than 450 people providing verbal and written comments, with much incisive critique coming from statewide Environmental Justice advocates. The draft as is currently stands relies heavily on costly and unproven carbon capture technologies and emissions trading instead of direct emissions reduction, propping up the current energy status quo of fossil fuel dependence. This message needs to be relayed again as forcefully as it was in Sacramento by EJ activists.
