A rally before the Planning Commission meeting July 18 showed strong community support for the proposed ordinance to phase out coal and petcoke in Richmond. But under pressure from the Levin Terminal, Phillips 66, and union workers they recruited to show up, the commission voted for a lengthy delay. They put off action on the ordinance until after a study process set up by AB 617 proves coal dust from the terminal is blowing into nearby communities.
That setback just means we have to work even harder to get a massive show of support for the ordinance to phase out coal and petcoke when the city council votes on it in the fall. Come to the next community meeting and find a way you can help.
