Two Bay Area Air Quality Management District employees who claim they discovered the deliberate destruction of critical pollution records, settlements and fines were retaliated against by firing. Michael Bachmann, manager of records, and Sarah Steele, an employee involved in protecting records and documents, assert that documents were being destroyed that were subject to a subpoena in current litigation involving Berkeley’s Pacific Steel Casting.
United Public Workers For Action and others will hold a public forum to discuss defense of these and other public whistleblowers, and holding BAAQMD management responsible to protect the nine counties of the Bay Area from ongoing toxic pollution.
