RSVP now for an exciting Sunflower Alliance webinar on yet another upcoming Supreme Court case that could seriously impact the course of our individual and collective lives. This time it’s the California State Supreme Court, and what’s at stake is the right of local jurisdictions in the state to regulate or prohibit oil and gas activity—and for the voters of Monterey County to have their choices respected.
Six lawsuits, including one by Chevron, were filed shortly after Monterey County voters approved Measure Z in November 2016 to ban fracking, phase out wastewater injection wells, and prohibit any new drilling in the county. A Superior Court judge in San Jose sided with the oilies and struck down two of the policies, leaving only the fracking ban standing. Protect Monterey County, the campaign that promoted Measure Z, joined Monterey County in appealing that ruling. And now it’s going to be heard by the Supreme Court.
Join us on August 21st to hear from Hollin Kretzmann, one of the lead attorneys on the case, and learn why he’s so optimistic about the outcome. He will be joined by three powerhouse organizers of the people’s campaign to protect Monterey County water and air from the rapacious oil industry: Laura Solorio, M.D., and Andy and Mary Hsai-Coron.
