Join the 350 Bay Area Action Legislative Committee for a briefing on The California Plastic Pollution and Recycling Act, which will be on the November ballot.
Isabella Gonzalez Potter, of The Nature Conservancy, will be presenting background, possible solutions, and up-to-the-minute updates on the initiative. She will also share information about legislation currently in play in California to address the plastics crisis.
The ballot measure would:
- Require that single-use plastic packaging and foodware in California be reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2030.
- Ensure plastic producers reduce single-use plastic packaging and foodware by at least 25% by 2030, as well as prohibit the distribution of plastic foam (e.g Styrofoam™) food containers.
- Fund recycling programs, habitat restoration, and environmental cleanup by charging a fee to producers of single use plastic packaging and foodware of no more than one penny per package.
