This is a chance to give the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) your opinion on decommissioning the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant.
An obsolete nuclear power plant sitting on an earthquake fault, dumping millions of gallons of heated water into the nearby ocean, creating a nearby pool of radioactive waste — what could possibly go wrong?
But Governor Newsom wants to keep it open past its planned shutdown date in 2025.
CPUC will hold a virtual hearing to take public comment. The official topic is the cost of the decommissioning process, but it’s an opportunity to weigh in on the big question: shut it down or keep it open. You can sign up to participate and/or submit written comment ahead of time.
