Join a national week of action to turn up the heat! Tell Biden: we want real climate action, not just talk.
“Biden promised to be a climate president – yet under his watch, the U.S. continues to be the biggest producer of oil and gas in the world. In the first few years of his term, he approved more lease sales for new oil and gas drilling on federal lands and waters than Trump. And his administration has approved new oil and gas projects, like the Willow oil drilling project in Alaska and multiple oil and gas export terminals in the Gulf.”
–People vs. Fossil Fuels
The actions will demand:
-
-
- NO MORE FOSSIL FUELS. Biden must require his agencies to deny permits for any new fossil fuel project (including pipelines, refineries, export terminals, and petrochemical plants) – and he must revoke his decision on fossil fuel projects that have not been adequately considered for their climate impacts, like the Willow oil drilling project and Alaska LNG.
- FOSSIL FUEL PHASE OUT NOW. Biden has the legal authority to require a managed decline in the production of oil and gas on federal lands and waters. Existing production is poisoning our communities and fueling the climate crisis. ¼ of U.S. climate pollution comes from drilling on public lands and waters. We need to begin a just phase out now.
- DECLARE A CLIMATE EMERGENCY. By declaring a national climate emergency, Biden can unlock additional powers to limit oil and gas exports and investments in fossil fuels abroad and make sure they can rebuild with more resilient clean energy.
- INCREASE THE AVAILABILITY OF CLEAN ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES for homes and transit. He can also ensure that communities hit hardest by climate disasters receive the resources they need.
