It’s been five years since the largest methane blowout in U.S. history at the SoCal Gas Aliso Canyon storage facility, and Los Angeles communities are still fighting to shut down Aliso Canyon.
While campaigning for Governor, Gavin Newsom promised Los Angeles families he would expedite the shutdown of Aliso Canyon. Then while in office, he directed the CA Public Utilities Commission to expedite plans to shut it down. Despite these promises, Aliso Canyon use has ramped up by 3000% under Governor Newsom’s watch, when it should be ramping down. Residents have been demanding accountability, and have requested meetings multiple times with the Governor and his staff, but are being ignored.
