Come to a rally to start building support for a new federal bill calling for transition to 100% renewable energy by 2035, with an 80% interim benchmark by 2027. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D, HI) introduced the Off Fossil Fuels for a Better Future Act (HR 3671) with six cosponsors including Barbara Lee, and the support of 250 organizations including Food and Water Watch, Climate Justice Alliance, Indigenous Environmental Network, and National Nurses Union.
The bill also demands a just transition to clean energy by providing protections for threatened communities and displaced fossil fuel workers. It calls for an end to fossil fuel subsidies including the offshore tax deferment — and would use the billions of dollars in revenue to fund the clean energy revolution.
In the Bay Area, Food and Water Watch will hold a rally kicking off a campaign to pressure local legislators to follow Lee’s example and sign on as co-sponsors of the OFF Act.
