The Climate Center has created a timely petition for urging our state representatives to invest in a just transition for workers and communities. Click here to sign and urge our legislators to restore $40 million in funding to support displaced oil and gas workers! We have just a few weeks to speak up in solidarity with workers transitioning out of fossil fuels and into the clean energy economy.
Last year, Governor Newsom set aside $40 million to in a fund to support displaced oil and gas workers, and an additional $20 million for a pilot program to train displaced oil and gas workers in Kern and Los Angeles counties for abandoned oil well abatement.
Facing a projected $31.5 billion deficit this year, the governor’s proposed 2023-2024 budget includes no additional funding for these programs. The legislature will vote on the final budget by June 15, meaning we have just a few weeks to speak up in solidarity with workers transitioning out of fossil fuels and into the clean energy economy.
Urge your State Senator and Assemblymember to invest in a just transition for workers and communities. Please sign the Climate Center petition here.
***Constituents of Senator Nancy Skinner: the petition erroneously directs your message to Senator Steve Glazer (who could benefit from hearing from a lot of non-constituents on this!) That said, you can always copy and paste the message into Senator Skinner’s email form.
