Will the fossil fuel industry be able to take back the recent huge victory for environmental justice in California? After years of struggle by a statewide coalition led by frontline community organizations, Voices in Solidarity Against Oil in Neighborhoods (VISION), this year we have a new law requiring 3,200-foot health and safety setbacks from oil and gas drilling.
Many other climate bills, good and bad, also passed and were signed into law.
But now the oil industry is scheming to overturn the hard-won safety buffer protections and wants to put the issue on the ballot.
The Oil and Gas Action Network is hosting a discussion for grassroots activists to share updates and think through what comes next.
Guest speakers will include frontline organizer Cesar Aguirre, who first found explosive leaking wells near Bakersfield
There will also be plenty of time for questions and discussion of tactics moving forward.
