Winter Solstice Treaty Action, December 21

December 19, 2020

Join the San Francisco Bay Area signatories on the Indigenous Women of the Americas Defending Mother Earth Treaty from wherever you are on this Winter Solstice.

From their invitation:

“This Treaty obligates us to conduct a nonviolent direct action to protect the sacred system of life each solstice and equinox.  Everyone is invited to participate.  And, while Mother Earth is encouraging us to take a time out now, it is important to connect with each other to protect and defend all we hold dear.

1.  Tune in at 10AM on December 21st to our page to hear good news about our climate and lineup of speakers and learn what you can do to help.

2.  We will have a list of organizations and causes that you can donate to so you can help contribute to the healthier future we are envisioning together.

3.  Spread the word so that others can help donate or give their time to the causes and take action.  Every voice counts and we want your community to be able to contribute to the success of our climate actions.

4.  Share your personal stories about good news in your community.  Please post to the Facebook page for Solidarity with Indigenous Women Defending Mother Earth Treaty.”

Sunflower Alliance is honored to be participating in this Winter Solstice Treaty Action.  Deep thanks and solidarity with the Indigenous Women of Americas Defending Mother Earth!  We will be sharing news at 11:40 about the victories we’ve had in this year, which show yet again that a combination of perseverance, hard work, and keeping the faith does actually overcome.

Background

The Indigenous Women of the Americas – Defenders of Mother Earth Treaty Compact 2015 was signed on September 27, 2015 the day of the fourth Blood Moon of the year, the Harvest full moon and a total lunar eclipse.

“As Indigenous Women of the Americas, we understand the responsibilities toward the sacred system of life given to us by the Creator to protect the territorial integrity of Mother Earth and Indigenous Peoples. These responsibilities include the safety, health and well-being of our children and those yet to come, as well as the children of all of our non‐human relatives, the seeds of the plants and those unseen.”   You can read the whole treaty here.

Hosted by Indigenous Women of the Americas Defending Mother Earth Treaty, Katie Nehls and Isabella Zizi.
